When God has a plan, He already has the people, places and props worked out. The
painting created for the “IV” sermon series was one of those props. The
very night the artist was approached abut possibly painting on sight during
the church service, God painted a canvas in her sleep. He created this
journey in a boat, through rough water. Everything in the painting seemed
to perfectly coincide with the sermon’s subject matter.
All the artist had to go by were four words: GOD, TRUTH, LOVE and MISSION.
The artist decided to break down the painting for the 4 week sermon series
to only paint certain colors on each of the four days. The colors that
were chosen for each Sunday were decided upon ahead of time and the artist had
no idea what was going to be spoken of during the sermon, yet even the color
placement lined up.
Week one: GOD – the colors blue and purple signify
royalty
Week two: TRUTH – browns, the color of the rock
(our foundation), the boat (vessel of our life), the course of the boat, the
stone that changes the course of even the mightiest river.
Week three: LOVE – black – representing the
sin in our life and God’s love being poured out (red vest) to give us
new life (green vest). A shadow of the cross also appeared when painting
this color, under the oar and down the inside of the canoe.
Week four – MISSION – white - this color first
represents the water and being washed. Also, that we have been made pure by
the blood of Christ we are now ready for the mission. The color white
also defines all the light in the painting. We are representative of the
light, having been made pure; we are now ready for the mission. |
